Financial Aid Notice
How do I accept my awards on MyNKU?
Please use the following steps to access your financial aid account:

Go to: https://mynku.nku.edu/ and type in your NKU user name (example: jonesj2)

If you have not activated your password, please follow the "New Student" instructions to set your initial password at the web address listed above.

If you have previously activated your password, please enter it and click Log On to access the portal

Select the "Financial Aid" tab and select "Academic Year 2012-2013"
- Click the "Awards" tab to view your offered awards

Please view and accept your awards. It is important to note that some awards have informational messages. The financial assistance listed is based on information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). These awards are based on full-time enrollment and may be prorated according to a student's enrollment.
FIRST TIME LOAN BORROWERS MUST SIGN A MASTER PROMISSORY NOTE (MPN) AND COMPLETE LOAN ENTRANCE COUNSELING FOUND ON WWW.STUDENTLOANS.GOV!
To complete the MPN, you will need your PIN number that you used to sign the FAFSA. If you do not have it you can go to www.pin.ed.gov and request a duplicate PIN.
Go to www.studentloans.gov and sign in with your PIN. Next, click on the link that says "Complete MPN" and select "Subsidized/Unsubsidized". Fill in the required information and submit. You will need the following information before going to the web site:

Your social security number

Your driver’s license number
-
Your permanent address and telephone number
-
Two references, including name, addresses, and telephone numbers

Your Federal PIN number
If you have not received a loan previously, once you have completed the MPN you need to complete Loan Entrance Counseling. This will help you understand the rights and responsibilities that come with your student loans. Complete the Entrance Counseling and print off a copy of the confirmation page for your records.
For Loan Entrance Counseling, please visit the following web site: www.studentloans.gov. Sign in and click on "Complete Entrance Counseling".
PLUS Loan
If a PLUS Loan (parent loan) has been accepted, the student and the parent will need to complete the Parent PLUS Loan Authorization Form at http://financialaid.nku.edu/financialaid/forms.php.
Print the 2012-2013 Parent PLUS Loan Authorization Form for the 12-13 academic year. Complete and submit the form to our office.
To complete the PLUS EMPN the parent will need his/her PIN number that they used to sign the FAFSA. If you do not have it you can request a duplicate by going to www.pin.ed.gov.
Go to www.studentloans.gov and click on the link that says Complete EMPN, select Parent PLUS and follow the instructions. After the MPN is signed, click on the link that says "Request PLUS Loan" and select "Parent PLUS". Fill out the application and submit. This is the credit approval process for the loan. Upon approval the loan funds will be disbursed to the school at the appropriate time.
GRADUATE PLUS Loan
If a Graduate PLUS Loan has been accepted, the student will need to sign an EMPN for the Grad PLUS loan as well as submit an online application to the Department of Education.
To complete the Graduate PLUS EMPN the student will need the PIN number that was used to sign the FAFSA. If you do not have the PIN number you can go to www.pin.ed.gov and request a duplicate one.
Go to www.studentloans.gov and click on the link that says "Complete MPN", select "Graduate PLUS" and follow the instructions. After the MPN is signed, click on the link that says "Request PLUS Loan" and select "Graduate PLUS". Fill out the application and submit. This is the credit approval process for the Graduate PLUS Loan. Upon approval the loan funds will be disbursed to the school.
Please note that if you are a first time Graduate PLUS loan borrower you will also need to complete Graduate PLUS Entrance Loan Counseling. To complete this counseling, please visit www.studentloans.gov. Sign in and click on "Complete Entrance Counseling". Be sure to select that you are a graduate/professional student.
ALL BORROWERS FOR THE 2011-2012 ACADEMIC YEAR ARE REQUESTED to sign a new EMPN. Once you have accepted the aid on myNKU we will certify the loan and send the information to the Department of Education.
