How do I accept my awards on Norse Express?
Summer 2009 only.
1. Follow this link to NORSE EXPRESS
2. Click on the link titled: Log on to Norse Express Student Services
3. Under the Student ID insert the student's social security number (numbers only), then under the PIN insert the student's birthdate (in 6 digit increment: mmddyy), click Login (NOTE:Once you login for the first time it is advised that you change your PIN number)
4. Under the Financial Aid section go to Accept Awards
5. Select Award Year 2009
6. Under the Action section it will give you the choice to either accept or decline each estimated award (Grants will automatically be accepted). You will need to select the appropriate action you want for each award.
If you do want to accept the estimated loan, but do not want the full amount, you need to select the accept option and then under the Partial Amount you need to place the amount that you wish to accept for the Academic Year.
Once you have selected each option you need to click the Submit Changes button.
(IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have questions regarding the types of aid you are being offered and to have full understanding of the requirements of the aid that you have been offered please access the Financial Aid Guide)
7. If you have accepted a estimated student loan and you are a first time loan borrower you need to complete a Master Promissory Note and a Stafford Loan Entrance Interview (NOTE: Your loan funds will never be disbursed to the school unless you complete these two items).
You must do the following!
To complete the EMPN you will need your PIN number from the FAFSA. If you do not have it you will need to have them send you another one. You can do this by going to the PIN (www.pin.ed.gov) website. This is a different PIN number than the one you use for Norse Express.
Go to the http://financialaid.nku.edu/loans.php and click on the link that says “Student Loans” and then Sign Your EMPN
Under the Student EMPN section, you will need to chose either Great Lakes or KHEAA as a guaranty agency. (IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a personal preference. The interest rates will be the same and all business will be done either online, by mail or phone. The guaranty agency is the institution that gives the banks the money to lend to you. You can access their websites to help you make this decision if you wish: Great Lakes..KHEAA). You will also be asked to chose a lender during the completion of the EMPN. Again this is personal preference. The interest rates are standard across the board. To view a list of lenders click on the "Lenders" button located under the Student Loan section of our webpage.
Complete the EMPN online. Be sure to print a copy for your records before you submit it.
Once you have completed the EMPN you need to return to the financial assistance webpage to complete the entrance counseling, located under the counseling link within the Student Loans section of our webpage.
8. Complete the Stafford/Grad Plus Entrance Counseling. Be sure to print the confirmation page for your records before logging out of the site.
9. If a PLUS Loan (parent loan) has been accepted the student and the parent will need to complete the PLUS Loan Authorization Form.

Complete and submit the form to our office
